Unit was ready to go as soon as it was turned on. Walked through standard set up with no issues. Included new (in box) Mac compatible keyboard and new-ish mouse that worked fine, but I didn’t like the way rolled, (I am very mouse finicky…) so I switched to a wireless mouse I already had. Shipped fast and well packaged. Bargain of the year. Would definitely consider this seller again. +++++Read more One person found this helpful Helpful Comment Report abusePaulN5.0 out of 5 starsOct 2009 Mac mini Computer (MC239LL/A)August 1, 2010Verified PurchaseI thought that existing owners of earlier Mac mini Computers might find my observations useful.I recently purchased a used Mac mini (the MC239LL/A released in Oct 2009) to replace a spring 2006 mini (first generation Intel with Core Duo processor). My ‘old’ mini has the much maligned GMA 950 graphics processor and, although it has worked OK for playing DVDs (and fine for audio tasks), that seemed to be about as much as it could do (trying to play some high resolution videos was completely unsuccessful with much video ‘stuttering’ and freeze-ups).When the revised Intel minis were released in the spring of 2009, with the Nvidea GForce 9400M graphics device, I wondered if it might provide a genuine improvement over my 2006 mini. The answer is a resounding yes ! It may not be as fast as a PC with a stand-alone video card but compared to my first generation Intel mini the Oct 2009 mini is a race horse.Although the mini ‘Wikipedia’ article (a storehouse of information) says that the Oct 2009 minis have to run ‘Snow Leopard’ that is not correct. I’ve been running my 2006 mini off an external FireWire drive for several years and, when I got my ‘new-used’ Oct 2009 mini (once I made sure that it booted OK off its internal drive – with Snow Leopard installed), I hooked-up my FireWire drive and rebooted the Oct 2009 mini …. it came up without any problems (there were a couple of ‘changes are detected’ messages but I ‘clicked-OK’ and that was all). What forcefully showed me how much better the Oct 2009 mini was than the spring 2006 mini was that it is now possible to play a DVD, running in Windows XP that is itself being run under VMware’s ‘Fusion’ environment which is running as a Mac OS X application. That was totally impossible on the older mini (spring 2006; first generation Intel CPU). (Note: the software being used to show the DVD in Windows XP is the ‘VLC’ application. I tried to load an old version of ‘WinDVD’ but kept getting peculiar error messages and, from everything I read off-the-Web, no-one has been able to get WinDVD to run in a ‘virtual’ environment. When running XP from ‘BootCamp’ there was no problem on the old mini to run ‘WinDVD 8’.)Now you may be wondering why I bought a used mini from Oct 2009 instead of the recently released (June 2010) minis ? Two reasons : money and some future planes. Although the most recently released minis (June 2010) have an even faster video processor (Nvidea GForce 320M) than the 2009 design from what I’ve been able to tell (reading) it does not seem to show the great improvement that was immediately apparent when the 2009 minis were first released in March 2009. I was able to buy my Oct 2009 mini for what I thought was a bit more than a hundred dollars less than a new (2010) mini (my 2009 mini has 4 GB RAM) would cost me and, in the not too distant future, I intend opening-up my ‘new’ mini to gain access to its two SATA ports. My ultimate goal is to have two 3.5 inch SATA drives connected to the 2009 mini and it seemed foolish to spend the money for one of the sleek now ‘unibody’ minis when I’m planning to do that.Read more Helpful Comment Report abuseAmazon Customer5.0 out of 5 starsI’m in love – this is way better than a Windoze desktopApril 9, 2010Verified PurchaseI received my Mac Mini 4GB within 2 days after ordering from Amazon. I unpacked the box, added an external keyboard and mouse, used the mini-DVI to DVI adapter that comes with the box, to hook it up to my Dell 21′ display. It took all of 5 minutes for the Mac Mini to power up, set up my account and I was good to go. This is way, way better than Windows. No bloatware, no anti-virus junk, no annoying pop-ups, none of the garbage that you get with Windows. The box itself is tiny and fits beautifully next to my monitor. I think Apple should just bundle in a keyboard and mouse. Yes, a Mac Mini is pricey relative to a comparable Windows box but it is well worth the aggravation saved. And beside if I need Windows I can just run it within Vmware Fusion or Virtual Box (free).I already own a MacBook Pro and several Windows laptops. I needed a desktop for home use where I could centralize all my music files and photos and this fits the bill perfectly. It’s relatively quiet – atleast compared to a Windows machine. It’s design is pleasing to the eye. I miss having an iSight camera built in – but I guess you could buy an iMac if a camera and display mattered to you. Snow Leopard looks stunning on my Dell monitor. I also don’t like that Apple forces you to spend a lot of money to get their keyboard + mouse but besides those negatives, this is a great computer for home use. Finally, I supposed I could have saved $100 by buying the 2GB model, prying it open and adding my own memory. I was nervous about doing that so I paid $200 extra for the 4GB model. If you plan to run apps such as Aperture/Photoshop, or any virtual machines, you should have atleast 4GB. One downside of the MacMini is that it isn’t expandable. But that is a minor downside.Read more One person found this helpful Helpful Comment Report abusePeter Marreck5.0 out of 5 starsMini packs a whallopFebruary 10, 2010Verified PurchaseI bought this to replace an appletv that I was unhappy with in my HTPC setup. For that it is almost overkill… it easily handles anything I throw at it when connected to an HDTV, such as running Boxee, Plex etc., plus it is a real computer unlike the appletv so I can have it do anything else. Excellent value and I may have to buy a couple more for my family and friends. Being able to boot into Windows 7 or run it in a virtual machine is also convenient for those games or apps that haven’t seen the light and come out with a Mac version- especially since it comes with 4GB RAM. One thing I was particularly impressed with is that the Mini, or Snow Leopard, or both, natively recognized the screen as an HDTV connection through my MiniDV>DVI>HDMI adapters so I didn’t have to tweak any video settings whatsoever and the HDTV essentially acts like a very large computer LCD display. The plethora of ports is also great. Pair it with a wireless keyboard and mouse and an Apple remote and you’re basically in HTPC nirvana.I’d recommend this little box as a great purchase for anyone looking for a cheaper way to dabble in Apple computers to replace or supplement an old PC (with a much smaller footprint, too), a supplementary Mac in your house, a replacement for any PowerPC Mac, or anyone wanting to create the ideal home theater PC setup.Read more 3 people found this helpful Helpful Comment Report abuseSee all 55 reviewsWrite a customer review Pages with related products.
